Overview

DramaAction & Adventure

The Mod Squad was the enormously successful groundbreaking "hippie" undercover cop show that ran on ABC from September 24, 1968, until August 23, 1973. The iconic counter-culture police series earned six Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nominations plus one win for Peggy Lipton, one Directors Guild of America award, and four Logies. Standout Aspects

Acting

Peggy Lipton's Emmy-winning cool—she basically invented TV's It Girl.

Costume

Wardrobe department went HARD on psychedelic prints and leather trenches.

Production

Aaron Spelling's formula: pretty rebels + hot topics = ratings gold.

Best for:Solo: Retro TV archaeology when you crave vintage vibes without commitment.·Friends: Hipster watch party—spot the era's social issues wearing bell-bottoms.·Background: Perfect '60s wallpaper while you pretend to be productive.
Heads up:Triggers: Period-typical handling of race, drugs, and mental health—dated but well-intentioned.

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

The show's 'hippie cop' premise was directly inspired by creator Buddy Ruskin's actual LAPD youth unit work.

Memorable

Clarence Williams III threatened to quit unless Linc got equal romantic storylines—network caved, history made.
