Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Trivia

Gene Barry originated the role on a 1961 episode of 'The Dick Powell Theatre' called 'Who Killed Julie Greer?' — the character was so popular they spun him off immediately.

Cultural

The show's creator Frank D. Gilroy won a Pulitzer for drama the same year Burke debuted — making this prestige TV before the term existed, just disguised as popcorn entertainment.
