Kuno Becker had never played competitive football before filming. He trained five hours daily for months, and his actual first touch in the Newcastle tryout scene was his real audition for the role.
This was the first big-budget film allowed to shoot inside St James' Park during actual Premier League fixtures. The trilogy's existence is largely why FIFA became obsessed with 'The Journey' mode years later.
