Motherhood: a subject so deeply ingrained in our society, we take it for granted as part of the natural order. It's assumed all women want children, that motherhood is not only a biological imperative but the defining measure of womanhood. Titled after one of the myths it challenges, this film draws upon a heady mix of culture, science, and history–revealing the rich and diverse lives of people who said no to children, and the forces that have marginalized them in society.

People that do not want to have children should not have children. Many people who think they want children should not be parents. The unending cases of child abuse prove that. I think most sane people would be happy that those who don't want children don't have them. There's no controversy there. And no one cares if others decide not to be parents.

Ha! Ha! I came out of the chute not wanting kids. When people pull that "selfish" s**t on me, I just tell them that the purpose of evolution is to perfect the species and since I've achieved that . . . there's no point in going on. Every time I hear screaming brats I rub my belly in thanks for the gold clips on my fallopian tubes. My fave set of jewelry.
