Overview

ActionDramaScience FictionThriller

Jimi, a computer game designer, finds that his latest product has been infected by a virus which has given consciousness to the main character of the game, Solo. Standout Aspects

Production

Dystopian production design that predicted 2000s grime before The Matrix.

Direction

Salvatores merges Italian neorealism with cyberpunk paranoia seamlessly.

Acting

Lambert's detached grief perfect for a man losing grip on reality.

Best for:Solo: Late night with headphones, let the dread sink in.·Streaming: Seek this out — it's buried by Hollywood's 1999 glut.·Rewatch: Catch the visual details you missed while processing the plot.
Heads up:Violence: Torture scenes involving game characters feel uncomfortably real.·Disturbing: Suicide themes and existential despair throughout.

Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

Released two years before The Matrix but drowned by it — this is the European cyberpunk that Hollywood couldn't market.

Trivia

The game 'Nirvana' was designed as a real playable demo for production; developers found it too depressing to complete.
