The lethal Reaper virus spreads throughout Britain—infecting millions and killing hundreds of thousands. Authorities brutally and successfully quarantine the country but, three decades later, the virus resurfaces in a major city. An elite group of specialists is urgently dispatched into the still-quarantined country to retrieve a cure by any means necessary. Neil Marshall made this as a love letter to 1980s post-apocalyptic films like Escape from New York and Mad Max 2, and the studio gave him $30 million to basically cosplay as John Carpenter.
The car chase was filmed with real vehicles and no CGI—a deliberate throwback that nearly killed the stunt team, and Marshall still considers it his proudest sequence.
