Gould's Bach recordings — still the gold standard, still bonkers.
Direction
Archival footage assembled like a ghost conducting itself.
Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Gould's famous 1955 Goldberg Variations recording was made in one week when he was 22. He re-recorded it in 1981, slower and weirder, like a completely different person.
He was so Canadian he refused to play in the US during Vietnam and literally wrote fan letters to the Arctic. The documentary captures this national weirdness perfectly.
