Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was a backdoor pilot for a CBS series that never materialized, hence the crammed family dynamics and 'prestige TV' pacing in 96 minutes.
Released months after James Byrd Jr.'s murder, it awkwardly grapples with hate crime legislation that wouldn't fully exist until 2009's Matthew Shepard Act.
