Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This is actually the second Sumuru film—1967's 'The Million Eyes of Sumuru' starred Shirley Eaton in gold paint. Roodt's version strips away most of Rohmer's original Orientalist tropes but keeps the camp.
Shot entirely in South Africa with local crew, this represents that weird 2000s wave of direct-to-video sci-fi trying to cash in on Matrix leather aesthetics with approximately $50 and a dream.
