Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was the second of four Nancy Drew films Warner Bros. cranked out in 1938-39 because Bonita Granville tested so well with audiences.
The film softened book-Nancy's sharper edges to fit Depression-era ideals of plucky but non-threatening femininity—basically, they made her more 'dateable' and less 'competent.'
