Acting
Al St. John's Fuzzy—comic drunk Marshall energy before it was cliché.
Practical Effects
Real horses, real dust, zero budget for safety regulations.

Director
Sam Newfield
Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Sam Newfield directed over 250 films, often completing them in under a week—this is one of eight Billy the Kid movies he cranked out in 1941 alone.
Bob Steele's Billy the Kid was a sanitized folk hero for Depression audiences who needed cheap escapism—the real outlaw was dead fifty years earlier and significantly less charming.
