Standout Aspects

Costume

Communist-era Wonderland looks like a fever dream thrift store.

Acting

Sophie Barjac commits fully to falling off a building into song.

Best for:Solo: Late night when you want to feel weirdly emotional about puppets.·Streaming: Discovering obscure Polish musicals nobody asked for.
Heads up:Emotional: Opening suicide scene played oddly romantic, not graphic but jarring.·Triggers: Depression-era Poland meets mental health metaphors—handle with care.

Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

Made in 1982 Poland under martial law, this was state-funded escapism that accidentally became a metaphor for escaping oppressive reality through imagination—or death.

Trivia

Paul Nicholas plays both Cheshire Cat AND Caterpillar because budget, and his Caterpillar is inexplicably a jazz saxophonist in a velvet smoking jacket. The 80s were a disease.
