Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Based on real psychoanalyst Georges Devereux's 1951 book — the film uses actual session transcripts word-for-word in places.
Desplechin insisted on shooting in 35mm and casting actual Blackfoot consultants after criticism of Del Toro's Puerto Rican heritage playing Native American.

Watched this last night for the 3rd time. This is not just a movie. This is Cinema in its truest art form. Beautiful character portrayals from both Benicio del Toro and Mathieu Amalric, this story draws me into this era and never fails to leave me sad that it has to end.
