Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The TV movie was designed as a backdoor pilot for a Fox series. It bombed so hard in America that the BBC didn't touch live-action Who again until 2005. McGann got one night shoot and a decade of audio dramas.
This is the only time the Doctor's regeneration was shown onscreen between 1987 and 2005—the 'wilderness years' where fans kept the franchise alive through novels and audios while this beautiful disaster sat in limbo.
