Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
DEFA's puppet films were East Germany's answer to Disney, but weirder and more folkloric. Kasper is a centuries-old trickster figure, basically the German answer to Bugs Bunny with a wooden head.
Director Klaus Georgi made over 20 Kasper films. This one features Rolf Römer, who was also a famous actor in DEFA's live-action films—imagine Meryl Streep doing voice work for a sock puppet.
