The brain-in-a-jar effects were so simple—just a rubber prop with lightbulbs—that Martin improvised most of his 'conversations' with it on the spot.
This was Martin and Reiner's third collaboration; they were chasing the anarchic energy of The Jerk but with actual plot structure, creating a weird hybrid that critics mostly shrugged at but became a cult VHS staple.
