The show's math consultant was Gary Lorden, a real Caltech professor who vetted every equation. The chalkboards were so authentic that actual mathematicians would pause episodes to solve the problems.
Numb3rs premiered during CSI's dominance and helped pioneer the 'consulting genius' procedural format that Elementary, Scorpion, and The Good Doctor would later exploit. It also made 'Fresnel lens' a household term for exactly nobody.
