Born in Synanon (2023)

Im a drug addict. 6 years clean time. Ive done several rehabs and they are very similar to synanon. I know that Synanon turned into a cult and ended up being harmful but i will say that it started out with good intentions, with good people and was saving people from their destructive behaviour. You can see a bit of synanon in almost every rehab facility across America. The things they did and the structure they developed and employed is still used in rehabs today. I'm literally watching this documentary on synanon as i type this so I dont know everything that happened quite just yet but I have to say that it was very helpful in many ways at the beginning and because the ideas and structure they employed worked those things are still used and arranged in rehabs today. Its a shame it took a turn for the worse. It helped lay the foundation of what we atill see in todays rehab facilities.
