Writing

Best for:Binge: Commit to all six seasons when you need a good cathartic cry.·Solo: Watch alone so nobody sees you sobbing at child custody rulings.
Heads up:Emotional: Child welfare cases will wreck you weekly. Keep tissues stocked.

Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Trivia

Amy Brenneman created the show specifically for Tyne Daly, writing the mother role with her in mind after they worked together on 'Murder One.'

Cultural

The series pioneered the 'female professional juggling impossible demands' template that 'The Good Wife' and 'Ally McBeal' would later refine—except this one's actually about systemic failures, not cute outfits.
