Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Spirou predates Tintin in Belgium (1938 vs 1929... wait, no, actually Spirou started 1938, Tintin 1929, but Spirou became the people's hero while Tintin got the prestige). This 1993 adaptation arrived during a Euro-animation boom trying to compete with American Saturday blocks.
The character was literally created to be a bellhop mascot for a Belgian magazine. Eighty years of adventures spawned from 'what if this hotel kid had a gun?' energy. The 1993 series adapts Franquin's golden era stories but sanitizes his later, weirder Marsupilami-less period.
