Trivia

William A. Wellman appears as the British lieutenant—he'd later direct 'Wings' and become Walsh's rival for epic filmmaking dominance.

Cultural

Based on Longfellow's 1847 poem that turned the Acadian expulsion into American cultural myth, this film helped cement 'Evangeline' as a symbol of lost French-Canadian identity.
