Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Chosin Reservoir (1950) remains one of the most brutal battles in US military history—1,500 Marines died, 12,000 evacuated with frostbite injuries. Frank walked out of that.
The 'hell ships' Frank survived were Japanese transport vessels where POW mortality reached 20%; his first war ended in liberation, his second in a frozen retreat. Both broke something.
