What would life be like without music? Mute takes place in a futuristic world without sound. Earless people gather at a nightclub to watch the light show and communicate via electronic orbs. Everything changes when a brash LJ (Light Jockey) seduces the wrong woman and stumbles upon his fifth sense.

The Strause brothers made this as a proof-of-concept demo reel while running their VFX company Hydraulx, which later worked on 300 and The Avengers.
This short is basically a moodboard for what would become their feature Skyline (2010)—same neon-drenched alien invasion aesthetic, same 'humans discovering too late' energy.
