Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Ferreri made this after fleeing Italian neorealism's shadow, importing its social conscience to Franco's Spain where censorship barely noticed a film about 'just kids.'
The four leads were non-professionals Ferreri found on Madrid streets; José Luis García (Chispa) never acted again, making his naturalistic desperation impossible to replicate.
