Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Tatsumi coined 'gekiga' (dramatic pictures) in 1957 to distinguish adult manga from children's comics, essentially creating the visual language for Akira and Ghost in the Shell decades later.
Eric Khoo spent six years securing rights and flew to Tokyo monthly to convince the reclusive Tatsumi, who finally agreed after seeing Khoo's previous film about Singaporean food hawkers.
