Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

Filmófono was Luis Buñuel's old company; most talent fled Franco in 1937, making this an unintentional diaspora time capsule.

Trivia

Star Angelillo had been imprisoned by Republicans during the war, then exiled—his cheerful screen presence masks complex political survivorhood.
