Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The film mirrors Portugal's actual latifúndio system—massive estates where rural workers lived in feudal conditions well into the 1970s. Salazar's dictatorship protected these families.
The estate was played by six different locations; Guedes insisted none had electricity visible. The final property's owner initially refused, then became an extra.
