Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
McQueen originally planned to race for real at Le Mans 1970 but insurers forbade it. He sneaked onto track anyway during filming breaks.
The Heuer Monaco watch McQueen wears became iconic; TAG Heuer still releases 'Le Mans' editions. The film tanked commercially but created motorsport cinema's visual grammar.
