Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The film was originally titled 'Druk' (Danish for binge-drinking) and won the 2021 Oscar for Best International Feature. Vinterberg's daughter Ida, who co-wrote the screenplay, died in a car accident four days into filming; the film is dedicated to her.
That final dance wasn't scripted—Mikkelsen improvised the entire sequence after Vinterberg told him to 'just move.' The crew had only one take before losing the light, and it's the only take in the film.
