Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Based on Tow Ubukata's novel, which was controversial for allegedly romanticizing suicide—Tsutsumi deliberately cast idol-types to heighten that uncomfortable tension.
Released during Japan's suicide prevention week by complete accident, causing the studio to awkwardly lean into 'starting conversations' messaging. The film's obsession with 'beautiful death' still clashes with actual prevention efforts.
