Chip an' Dale (1947)

chaotic neutralslapstick warfaretiny revenge fantasy

Overview

AnimationComedy

Donald needs a log for his fire. Unfortunately, the one he picks is occupied by a couple of chipmunks and their stash of acorns. When he cuts it down, Chip and Dale fall out, but their acorns stay behind, so they work at putting out Donald's fire and retrieving their stash. Donald, of course, takes this as calmly and cheerfully as you would expect.

This was Chip and Dale's third appearance but the first where they were named and developed their distinct personalities—Chip the schemer, Dale the dopey one.

Cultural

The duo's name comes from 18th-century cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, a pun that absolutely no child has ever gotten.
