31 minutes of pure ballet chaos — and Sergei Polunin plays a WOLF. Need I say more?
Peter and the Wolf, Prokofiev's musical fairy tale, has been delighting children since 1936. Nearly 60 years later, in 1995, the young choreographer Matthew Hart created a witty choreographed version for the Royal Ballet School with designs by Ian Spurling. Described as ‘an utterly delightful ballet and a perfect showcase for the younger students,’ by the Royal Ballet's Director, Monica Mason, it was staged again – and recorded for this DVD – in 2010.
Production
Ian Spurling's playful designs that scream 'expensive school play' in the best way.
Acting
Baby Sergei Polunin as a menacing wolf before he became ballet's bad boy.
Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Sergei Polunin was just 21 here, two years before his infamous 'take me back' Instagram meltdown that made him ballet's most chaotic legend.
Prokofiev composed this in 1936 to introduce children to orchestra instruments; nearly 75 years later, it's still doing that job with way more jazz hands.
