Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Made during the Brezhnev stagnation, this was one of few Estonian films allowed to show 'forest brothers' resistance—though strictly as misguided villains.
Director Kaljo Kiisk later admitted the film's 'heroes' made him uncomfortable; he smuggled ambiguity past censors through Tõnu Kark's performance.
