Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This film captures mid-century Egypt's obsession with 'respectability' — where a woman's entire worth hinged on untarnished reputation, and one police raid could destroy a family forever.
Shadia reportedly refused to wash her face for three days to achieve the authentic hollow-eyed look for the prison scenes — method acting before the term existed in Egyptian cinema.
