Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Pagnol's 'Marseille trilogy' cast reunites here, with Demazis playing essentially Fanny's darker twin. This was Giono's bleakest novel, and Pagnol didn't soften it.
The 145-minute runtime was studio-mandated; Pagnol preferred longer cuts. That prison sequence was originally even more harrowing.
