Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was among the final specials using the original model format before the show switched to full CGI in 2009—wait, no, they went CGI in 2009, this 2017 release is hybrid. The nostalgia is manufactured and I love it.
Hugo's design is based on the real Schienenzeppelin, a 1930 German propeller-driven railcar that actually existed and absolutely terrified people. Sodor's version is somehow less cursed.
