Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The real Annie Laurie married three times—never to a Douglas. The famous poem was written by William Douglas in 1685, fabricating a romance that never existed.
This was Ann Rutherford's first credited role at MGM; she'd soon become Mickey Rooney's girlfriend in the Andy Hardy series and Scarlett O'Hara's sister in Gone With the Wind.
