Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The Mauricio Rosales series (1955-1961) represents Mexico's answer to the declining Hollywood B-western, grafting lucha libre's masked hero aesthetic onto norteño settings. Antonio Aguilar would become a ranchera music legend; this was his action-hero phase.
Director Jaime Salvador shot most Rosales films in 10 days or less. The 'justiciero' mask was reportedly stolen from wardrobe twice by fans during production.
