Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The Caste War (1847-1901) was one of the longest-running indigenous revolts in Americas history, yet rarely appears outside Mexican education. This film was part of 1970s efforts to reclaim that narrative.
Julián Pastor cast real Maya-speaking extras from Yucatán villages, some descendants of actual Caste War combatants, giving the battle scenes ancestral weight.
