Fronted by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, the American rock band Foo Fighters will perform live at Rio de Janeiro’s famed soccer (football) stadium, Estádio do Maracanã tonight, Sunday January 25th. The show is part of the Sonic Highways World Tour, in support of the band’s eighth studio album of the same name.
Production
Maracanã's 78,000 capacity captured in all its roaring glory.
Direction
Concert filmmaking that gets off the stage and into the crowd.
Sound
Taylor Hawkins' drum sound—loud enough to register on seismographs.
Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was part of the Sonic Highways World Tour, named after their HBO documentary series where they recorded in eight different cities.
Grohl broke his leg on tour earlier in 2015 and performed from a custom throne—he was fully healed and mobile by this Brazil show, which explains the extra chaotic energy.
