Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Maria Orska was a major Jewish star of Weimar cinema; she died in the Holocaust, making this surviving fragment devastatingly precious.
The 'gypsy' archetype here reflects period prejudice, yet Orska's performance subverts exoticization through raw dignity.
