Patrick Bokanowski shot on 35mm then physically scratched, painted, and rephotographed each frame across four years. His wife Michèle composed the score separately, neither seeing the other's work until completion.

Often screened alongside Jan Švankmajer's 'Dimensions of Dialogue,' this represents the peak of '80s-'90s French experimental animation that influenced later artists like Don Hertzfeldt and The Brothers Quay.
