Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was Hawks and Wayne's fifth and final collaboration, completing an unofficial trilogy that started with Rio Bravo and El Dorado. They were basically remaking the same movie hoping no one would notice.
Hawks cast Jorge Rivero after seeing him in Mexican films, but Rivero's limited English meant most of his dialogue was dubbed — which explains why Cordona's romantic chemistry with Shasta feels like two people in different zip codes.
