Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Director Tony Wakefield shot most driving scenes in a single continuous take with a rigged pickup truck, forcing Méndez to maintain emotional continuity across 40-minute unbroken performances.
The film draws on Yucatec Maya concepts of 'xibalba'—the watery underworld—suggesting Mari's disappearance into cenotes carries spiritual weight beyond simple tragedy.
