Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Rosewood was effectively erased from history until 1982, when a journalist uncovered survivors' testimonies. Florida didn't officially acknowledge the massacre until 1994.
Singleton fought studios to avoid a white savior narrative; the compromise was making Wright complicit, not heroic. The real John Wright did shelter some residents, but the film interrogates his motives.
