They started in a thrash metal band called Tierra Ácida before abandoning electric guitars entirely. The acoustic reinvention was basically a screw-you to the industry.
Their 2006 self-titled album outsold both Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash in Ireland that year—two Mexican immigrants dominating Irish charts with instrumental guitar music. The irony is delicious.
