Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Made during Poland's final communist years, 'Alabama' captures a generation's desperate fantasy of Western escape — the title itself becomes a cruel joke about American dreams.
Director Rydzewski was primarily a documentarian; this rare fiction film borrows that same merciless observational eye. Probosz, a major Polish star, reportedly struggled to shake the role for months.
