Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was RKO's first 3D feature, shot with the 'Natural Vision' rig that required enormous cameras and blinding arc lights. Mitchum reportedly hated the process and the headaches it caused.
The cable car climax was filmed at Parque Nacional del Tepeyac in Mexico City, making this one of the earliest Hollywood productions to exploit exotic 3D locations as a selling point.
