Kevin Clash performed Elmo from 1985 until 2012, making this peak-era Elmo before the controversy. The voice was originally pitched higher until Clash found the sweeter spot that made Elmo iconic.
Elmo's World premiered in 1998 as a ratings Hail Mary for declining Sesame Street viewership — it worked so well it dominated the show for over a decade and spawned this standalone release.
