Overview

Comedy

Ludvig and Sussi Battwyhl, Louis and Katja Brenner and Julia and Kurt Balzar are upper class millionaires. They don't seem to do any real work but still need a vacation in the mountains. Everybody seems to be romantically involved with everybody. A rich American woman joins them.

Standout Aspects

Acting

Bergman's comic timing before Hollywood made her suffer beautifully.

Costume

1930s ski resort glamour that screams 'we've never worked a day.'

Writing

Witty bed-hopping dialogue that somehow stays classy.

Best for:Solo: When you want Bergman being chaotic, not anguished.·Rewatch: Catch which spouse is eyeing which other spouse.·Friends: Drinking game: sip when someone switches partners.

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

This was Bergman's final Swedish film before Hollywood came calling—she'd soon trade ski-lodge farce for Casablanca heartbreak.

Trivia

The original Swedish title 'Pengar' literally means 'Money'—the American title 'Dollar' nods to the wealthy American disruptor.
